Week 30: We ate Chicken feet
Ok Tuesday we had to wake up early to go to Huehue for the mini multizona. It was fine. They explained some new things to us and what not but idk if it was worth the 6 hour trip. I finally got to eat at Mcdonalds. It was really good.
Wednesday we went and taught this Jovani kid. He was cool and he likes when we teach him but he just doesn't understand what were saying super well. Later that day we went to Camoja and met this one guy who showed up to church last week. He hadn't gone to church for 15 years but he like wants to reactivate super bad. He served a mission too like 40 years ago back. He said he was super active but then moved to a place where there wasn't a capilla so he just stopped going. But he's going to try to help us start a branch out in camoja so that will be nice.
Thursday. Saber.
Friday. The best day I've had in a while. So the last time Jovani told us to come by at 8 in the morning so we did just that. He wasn't there tho but his little friend thats usually with us was and he told us to come teach his parents. So we did. We've talked to them before. They're from the iglesia de Dios. One of the many evangelical churches here. They're super super nice and all but then the dad just went hard core bible bash. So basically, one of the biggest problems with the evangelicals is that they're super hard core faithful to their church but they also believe that religion doesn't matter or that it doesn't save you. So he hit us with that and I just asked him why he goes to his church. He said the typical, to adore God. Then I said why not do it in the Catholic church. He said, “Because many people think the Catholic church was the first church but really it started in 500 A.D. our church was the church established by Christ.”
This goes perfectly with lesson 1, the Restoration, so we explained the apostasy and the Restoration super well. We talked for need for authority and what not and he even agreed with us but then said he said he can't believe Joseph Smith was a prophet. Ok fine. But do you believe God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow? I said. Claro que si. He replied. So then why would God stop revealing his secrets to us through prophets? Then he went into the weirdest explanation. Idk basically the point is sometimes things go really well for us and we feel like we explain things well but the people just don't accept it. Also this guy was a smart guy. Oh and his dad is a member of the church but lives in Huehue. Idk it makes me sad sometimes.
That wasn't why the day was awesome though. So after lunch we didn't have anything to do but we remembered our friend Wilmer had been begging us to come visit him for weeks. He lives 2 hours away though. But we decided to go. He lives about an 1 and a half in a place called The Libertad. There's a sign from the highway that says welcome to The Libertad. I always thought it was right there but its actually tucked up on top and behind a mountain. Its about another 30 min by flete. This town is like the coolest town. It's not like other mountain villages. Its like Santa Ana but on the top of a mountain. All the roads are super super steep but it's all paved. And the houses are all nice. The town its self is just nicer.
Wilmer picked us up in a truck and were kinda scared with him navigating the super steep, wet roads. Oh yeah it was raining super hard too so it was super foggy and looked awesome. He took us down away from the city to show us his house. He took us to like this compound of houses just kinda put randomly around each other. They were all houses of his family. He had his own and it was actually super nice. We were kinda surprised. Its super small but probably the nicest i've been in outside of Xela. He was super super happy to have us over. He went to the states so he knows English a little and so he won't speak Spanish with us. Even though its really bad, every time we speak Spanish to him he just responds in super broken English. He's awesome and super faithful. I had an appreciation for him before but now its way higher. He hasn't missed a Sunday since I've been here and his house isn't just far, its super hard to get to. He inspired me.
Saturday we went to Nenton. It was like a normal Nenton day except we had to say goodbye to Ernesto and Samuel because EH had changes and I might've had changes. Later we had mutual. Hardly anyone came but a few did and we played ping pong. It was super fun and everyone loved it.
Sunday we had church like always. After we said good bye to a lot of people. One family gave us dinner. We ate chicken feet. It's really not bad, it's just like skin. The only problem is its super hard to eat and get everything off.
Later that night we got a call from the ZLs saying I've got 6 more weeks here. Soooooooo ya. 6 more weeks of heat but I love it here, so we good.
