Week 54: November 11, 2019 you gotta do what you gotta do

Last week I forgot to mention but we found a super awesome family. When I was on divisions with Elder Jensen we were in the tienda of Francisca. She always gives us weird challenges to do and this time it was drink like v8 or something. It was just vegetable juice. So we tried and failed because it was super nasty. Then we asked her why she even sells it and she said the people there loved it. Right then a 17 yr old girl walked in and so just like joking around we asked if she liked it. She said yes and then I gave her mine and she just chugged it. Then right after that chugged elder Jensens. So we were pretty shocked by that so we started talking with her, put a cita with her and went w them the next day. Turns out their family is super pilas. They're a fam of 7. The parents only speak quiche but can understand Spanish a little. The rest of the fam is super shy and doesn't talk a lot but always listens to us. This girl Juana is super pilas though and always participates. They don't understand a whole lot so we have to teach super super simple. Like they don't even know who Moises is and that's like almost as basic as planting cebolla here. Anyway, they're super cool and we visit them like every 2 or 3 days.

Tuesday we had a cita in this one aldea that I've only been to once and I couldn't remember where the house was so we had to walk all of the aldea to find it and my comp was super mad at me. Later in the day, my comp told me to stop walking so fast, even though it was just regular mission stride, so he told me about sec 61:3 in doctrina y convenios. It basically says that elders shouldn't walk swiftly while inhabitants on both sides are perishing in unbelief. Right then I heard a little whistle, I stopped but couldn't hear it again. My comp told me it was nothing. Then I heard it again then I looked back and way in the distance I saw a head pop out and then back in. So we went over there and it turned out to be some contacts that we had a while back. They had a little street cart selling quesadillas. We bought some from them and started talking and turns out they're super buena onda. We put a cita and dipped. Then I told my comp doesn't mean to walk slow, just to walk attentively so that you can hear a faint whistle if there is one. Then he got super mad at me and walked more slowly.

Thursday we had a multizona. Presidente was spittin fire and revelation. It was honestly so good. I can't really say all that went down because it kinda just makes sense for our mission. But I have full faith that he really receives revelation from God to lead the mission. After that, we ate lunch and chilled with the boys. It's always good just to see all the boys again.

Friday we had lunch with a family but there was also an elder that got home like a year ago and came to visit. So that was kinda fun to talk to him. We had a lesson with the people that we bought quesadillas from. We got into a pretty deep discussion about basically everything. He started out by asking why Cain was able to find a wife and leave to another city when he and able were their firstborn children. So we had to break out the Perla de Gran Precio which is always pretty sketchy on the first visit. But they took it well. Then we talked about dispensations, the promise made to Abraham, 12 tribes of Israel, how the Americas got populated, how that relates to the book of Mormon, the apostasy and a whole bunch of other things. It was pretty fun actually just because everything he asked we had an answer ready. Which is the nice thing to have all that God has revealed on the earth as a reference instead of just the bible alone.

Sunday was super awesome. We had stake conference but it was presided by Elder Bednar. Super weird but super cool. He didn't come to visit any other ward or stake or give any other devotional but just to talk to our stake. It was honestly one of the best talks I've heard. Everything he said was just super powerful. The apostles always give their talks way differently than in conference. He started out by talking to any investigators or visitors and basically just giving lesson one to them. Or the restoration. But he gave it so differently than how we do as missionaries. After that, he talked to the members about a lot of stuff.

One was about how covenants aren't really like a 2-way promise between us and Dios like we normally thing. It just a contract that god writes and we sign. People tend to think that we always have our agency to choose if we're gonna keep the commandments or not. Which technically is true but what he said was pretty interesting. He said that we gave up our agency when we made the covenant. When we were baptized we made a covenant to take upon us the name of Christ. Which means to always keep the commandments. Some people think that its too hard and that the church asks too much, but it doesn't matter, you accepted the terms when you signed. You had the option of whether you would keep the word of wisdom or not. But that was before you made the covenant to do it. You had the choice of whether you'd go to church every Sunday or pay tithing or love your neighbor or saber. But it's not the morning of or any other time. It was when you made the covenant to do it. After that, you gave up your choice to not go to church or to not pay tithing or to hate your neighbor or drink or smoke. So I don't know if I explained that well but it was pretty dang awesome para me.

He also shared a story of how one time Gordon B. Hinckley one time came to him and said, “David it was never better in Joseph's day! This is the best season in the history of the restored church.”
He talked about how now we're gonna build a temple in Papua New Guinea and Sierra Leone and 20 years ago those are the two last places hed guess to put one. Also, Guatemala is about to get its third temple. We've got tens of thousands of young people around the world spreading the gospel and that we are seeing blessings never before seen, and it just keeps getting better.  Now is the time to give our whole alma to the lords work.

Just that. Also, I just got the call from the Zone Leader saying I have changes. Entonces que onda? Pres. told me I was fijo staying until February. I still have a lot of corte to buy. I'm kinda triste tbh. But I just said I believe my pres is a pres de revelacion so I mean you gotta do what you gotta do ya know.

Monday first we played soccer as a zone. It was the first time I've even ran since my accidente and not gonna lie my knee was a bit tender. I was kinda scared tbh but now were good. After we had lunch with some members and I told them ya me voy and they got really sad. They said that they wish it was my comp leaving instead, in front of him. But de plano I guess.

Til next week.
